Climates of Respect/Blueprint for Success/Program Approaches Overview
Creating “climates of respect” requires knowledge about the
principles, practices and strategies involved. This session will provide
a general overview of program and organizational strategies that support
climates of respect in after-school settings. Part of the session will be
devoted to exploring how the “Don’t Laugh at Me” camp
program can be integrated into the after school setting to help support
the creation of emotionally safe environments.
Developing a useful “Blueprint for Success” for after-school
programs requires a dynamic vision and strategic planning process that
integrates elements of 21st Century Community Learning Center programs with
local resources and ideas. Work will begin to move this process forward.
This workshop will offer participants specific strategies to strengthen
their after-school program and the opportunity for a resource exchange among
after-school program providers from around the state. This session will
include focus on model programs and practices such as the Rite Of Passage
Experience (ROPE), which provides a strategy for linking recreation and
academics through the Initiation of Scholars practices.
